Here are the answers to a few questions which we often receive and thought it would pay to dedicate a whole webpage to the cause.
Our popular open club sessions run every Friday evening; going between 6pm and 8pm for juniors and 8pm to late for seniors. We will let you know in advance whether or not we are open on public/school holidays.
Check out where we are and how to get to us!
The cost for becoming involved in table tennis is surprisingly low compared to other sports. To attend a club session, it costs just $3 for juniors and $5 for seniors. If you would like to formally become apart of Belmont, you will also need to pay a subscription.
Subs (or subscriptions) are a yearly membership fee which enables players to be officially recognized as members of Belmont Table Tennis Club, Table Tennis Wellington and Table Tennis New Zealand. Maintaining a valid subscription entitles players to enter interclub competitions and enjoy other great benefits exclusive to club members. We recommend that subscriptions be paid for at the beginning of each season.
That's perfectly fine! Even if you've never picked up a bat before or you're the champion of your old man's garage table, you're more than welcome to attend our open club sessions or even join us as a member. We take pride in holding internationally recognized coaches and players, so you'll never be too far from help! Stephen Hirst, who will always be there for you at our open club sessions, is a former Elite Head Coach for Table Tennis Wellington and has experience in coaching in a number of different setiings. From time to time our top club players will also be present at sessions and would be more than happy to give advice, motivate you and even help you set goals.
Of course you can! All you need are some comfortable clothes, athletic shoes (preferably non-marking indoor) and a great spirit for fun and competition! We do have a number of bats that you can "loan" for club sessions, although there's only so many that we can give out so we highly recommend you having your own! If you're unsure about where to start with table tennis equipment, you can have our elite players suggest you options based on budget, game technique and personal preferences.
The answer is simple really; all you have to do is round up a group of friends or fellow players and pass your names (and team name if applicable) onto Stephen, our Club Captain, who will enter you on behalf of Belmont Table Tennis Club! As you'll be representing the club, you'll be required to officially value your membership with a subscription.
